BIG IDEA
Understand the idea before memorising a rule.
Elements, compounds and mixtures is part of physics. At Grade 7, the goal is to connect this topic to a clear method, relevant evidence and a final check. You will apply that idea to a real physics question at this grade level.
YOU WILL LEARN TO
- Explain the key ideas in elements, compounds and mixtures using accurate science vocabulary.
- Apply a reliable method to a new elements, compounds and mixtures task.
- Check the result and explain why the evidence supports it.
METHOD
A reliable three-step approach
- 1
State the scientific idea using accurate vocabulary.
- 2
Connect cause and effect with an observation or model.
- 3
Check the explanation against evidence, units and safety rules.
WORKED EXAMPLE
During a study-group discussion for Grade 7, an object travels 90 m in 10 s. What is its average speed?
Model response
The correct answer is 9 m/s. Speed = distance ÷ time = 90 ÷ 10 = 9 m/s.
