Problem
Learning tools often feel disconnected, generic or dependent on a perfect internet connection.
LEARNORBIT ACADEMY · BUILD 23
A documented redesign focused on personalisation, reliability, progress evidence, offline access and the full 100-point acceptance rubric.
PURPOSE & AUDIENCE
Build 23 is designed for a student aged 13+ who needs one organised place to learn, create, ask questions and show progress. Parents and teachers can also use the evidence to understand consistency and growth.
Learning tools often feel disconnected, generic or dependent on a perfect internet connection.
A personal learning orbit with a custom identity, clear next steps, analytics, AI support and offline resilience.
Students can see what they completed, understand their pattern and continue without losing momentum.
DESIGN DECISIONS
Stars, rings and motion reinforce the LearnOrbit brand without overwhelming the learning content.
Layered translucent cards create hierarchy while keeping text contrast and focus strong.
Animations reveal progress, support navigation and respect reduced-motion preferences.
Custom choices give the student ownership and make dashboards feel less generic.
TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT
A manifest, install icons and service worker cache the core shell and provide an offline fallback.
BigInt and fraction arithmetic solve small or extremely large expressions directly on the device.
Versioned automatic snapshots, export, import and restore reduce the chance of progress loss.
Activity events produce weekly charts, subject evidence, achievements and next-step insights.
Timeouts, three retries, optional model fallback, online detection and useful error states prevent dead ends.
Keyboard navigation, focus states, reduced motion, touch-friendly controls and readable contrast improve inclusion.
CHALLENGES & RESPONSES
The solution was to calculate safe arithmetic in the browser before any API request.
Versioned local snapshots and portable JSON backups provide recovery while respecting the project’s current architecture.
Animations are subtle, GPU-friendly and disabled when the user prefers reduced motion.
Events are connected to real completions and questions rather than displaying invented metrics.
100-POINT RUBRIC EVIDENCE
A clear 13+ student audience, guided onboarding, visible learning progress and responsible AI support.
A premium space-inspired visual system, custom avatar studio, glassmorphism, live progress motion and responsive layouts.
Continue Learning, first-time guidance, quick subject shortcuts, recent activity, keyboard controls, skeleton states and accessibility.
Installable PWA, offline shell, exact device calculator, analytics, automatic backups, lazy loading, retries and validated data.
A personalised learning orbit combining avatar identity, AI tutoring, gamification, portfolio evidence and offline resilience.
This page explains the purpose, decisions, challenges, testing approach and lessons behind the build.
Final scoring still depends on live demonstration, testing evidence and assessor judgement.
WHAT THIS BUILD TAUGHT
Build 23 demonstrates that visual polish is most valuable when it makes the experience clearer. The avatar system improves ownership, the analytics make progress understandable, the backups reduce risk, and the PWA makes the product more dependable.
The next improvement would be a parent-approved cloud account layer so profiles and progress can synchronise securely across devices.
